Mount Orpheus (also known as Shirokolashki Snezhnik) is the second highest peak in the Rhodope Mountains. It is located in the Southern Rhodopes and is 2188 metres high. It is the highest accessible peak in the mountains, as the summit of Golyam Perelik is a forbidden zone.

It is made of volcanic rocks, its slopes are covered by vegetation, and its ridge is bare above. There is a marble slab with the name of the peak on it. Orpheus offers beautiful views of almost the entire Rhodope Mountains, with neighbouring peaks and settlements visible.

The walk to the top is easy and pleasant and is an excellent idea for a walk in the forest and mountains. Most of the route is outdoors, if you are going in summer it is a good idea to bring plenty of water. The route takes about 2 hours each way, and you can see many species of animals such as: eagle, falcon, spotted mouse, squirrel, fox, field mice, rabbits and more.
