At the entrance to Smolyan from Pamporovo, the attention of travellers is attracted by a large rock on the left above the road. This is the rock called the Bride/Turluka/. The rock takes this name from the most common legend about it. The legend tells of a maiden who was claimed as a wife/ bride/ by a local Turkish ruler. She agreed, but asked to have one last look at her birthplace from on high before the wedding. The bride climbed the cliff and threw herself from there.
The best place to stop to view The Bride from afar is across the road, in the parking lot next to the first lake in town, which is also the largest and most beautiful lake. The rock can be reached by an eco-trail called “The Bride”, which starts from the turnoff to the monastery “St. Panteleimon” on the road Pamporovo – Smolyan.
