There are many legends and legends about the Rhodope peak Kom. The majestic mountain ridge attracts archaeologists, treasure hunters, explorers and lovers of wonders. All are convinced that the peak is sacred – not only because an ancient sanctuary was discovered there. Some of the legends are related to buried ancient treasure from Ancient Greece, others tell of a hidden possession of robbers, and still others – of a pot with haiduk pendari. Some archaeologists believe that this is the place of the sanctuary of Dionysus, and the people from the villages tell of an underground church, which served as a hiding place for the Bulgarians during the time of Mohammedanism.
During the research it became clear that the place was used as a sanctuary of the Thracians.
The pottery found dates from different eras and even a Celtic coin was discovered. Archaeologists also discovered the remains of a Christian chapel, which was rebuilt by the local people and dedicated to the Apostle Peter. Even today, locals go up there on St Peter’s Day to pray for health and prosperity.
